For the best night’s sleep, there is no doubt that a goose down duvet / comforter is the ultimate for warmth and comfort. There is nothing better than curling up in a goose down comforter after a hard day’s work. With its warmth and softness, falling a sleep is a whole lot easier. As your sleep will be more restful you will wake up ready to tackle another day. Only select geese and ducks that have extremely soft and insulating clusters of plume on their breasts are used for "Down". "Down" is a plume which has no hard elements unlike feathers which have a quill. Even though geese and ducks have different colored plumes the quality between them is the same. Fill power is a term you will find commonly describing the quality of "Down". What this is, is a measure of the amount, in cubic inches, that 1 ounce of “Down’ will fill. What this means is the better the insulation a Gosse down comforter gives you the higher the Fill power rating is. Better insulation results from the "Downs" clusters being larger and stronger. This has a better loft to trap air and insulate. Goose down that is made up of larger clusters provides superior insulation and because it breathes better its insulating properties last a lot longer than smaller down clusters. The smaller more fragile down clusters are used primarily in less expensive imported products whic tend to lose their insulation properties quickly. The quality of the fabric that encases the goose down is classed by its thread count. This is basically the number of threads contained in a square inch of fabric. The higher the thread count, the finer the yarn used to weave the fabric. Higher thread count fabrics have softness and comfort which is unmatched compared to lower count fabrics. Checking the fill power and thread count, when purchasing a goose down comforter / duvet is a good idea to gauge its quality. With the higher quality goose down comforters you will pay more but for the superior warmth and comfort it’s well worth while. If you are on a budget, put as much as you can towards your purchase as the better the goose down quality the longer the insulation properties will last. |
